Bane is a fictional supervillain who appears in comic books published by DC Comics in the United States. Chuck Dixon, Doug Moench, and artist Graham Nolan collaborated on the creation of Bane, who made his first appearance in Batman: Vengeance of Bane #1. (January 1993). Bane is often represented as a formidable foe of the superhero Batman, and he is a member of the rogues gallery, which is a collection of villains that oppose Batman on a regular basis. Bane, who has a unique combination of tremendous strength and excellent intellect, is widely regarded as the only villain to have “broken the bat,” that is, to have defeated him both physically and psychologically. He is the son of King Snake, who is another of Batman’s adversaries.
Bane was first portrayed by Robert Swenson in the 1997 film Batman & Robin, and he was last portrayed by Tom Hardy in the 2012 film The Dark Knight Rises. On the FOX television series Gotham, Bane was also portrayed by Shane West in the last season of the series. Bane was placed #34 in IGN’s list of the Top 100 Comic Book Villains of All Time, which was published in 2012.
