Fisher-Price Imaginext Joker & Harley Battle Vehicle Playset DWV56
The Fisher-Price company was founded in 1930 during the Great Depression by Herman Fisher, Irving Price, Price’s illustrator-artist wife Margaret Evans Price, and Helen Schelle. The name Fisher-Price was created by combining two of the three founders’ names. Fisher formerly worked for a firm in Churchville, New York, where he was involved in the manufacture, marketing, and advertising of video games. The owners, Price and Helen Schelle, had previously run the Penny Walker Toy Shop in Binghamton, New York, after they had retired from a big variety chain shop. Fisher-primary Price’s toy-making ideas were concentrated on intrinsic play value, creativity, robust construction, excellent value for the money, and action-oriented designs. Early toys were constructed of hefty steel pieces and ponderosa wood, which was resistant to splintering and was durable enough to withstand repeated usage. Colorful lithographic labels were used to bring further elements and character to the project. Originally, Mrs. Price served as the company’s first Art Director, creating push-pull toys for the company’s first line that were based on characters from her children’s novels.
